Winter Classes 2018

Full Cloth Portfolio

This cloth-covered portfolio is sized for 8.5 x 11 prints. It is lined with archival paper, closes with a ribbon and has an interior cloth pocket to hold the contents in place. It could potentially be made any size. The class will focus on measuring and cutting all the parts by hand. Bring a $15 material fee with you to class.

Cased-in Coptic Books

The Coptic link stitch binding is a historical binding that looks surprisingly modern. It is named for the chains of sewing stitches linking across the spine. The books are quick to sew, flat when open, constructed without glue and are very sturdy. Today, the best known Coptic books leave the sewing and the spine uncovered, as in the photo below.

A historical alternative is to case-in the books, as in the top photo, resulting in books that look like conventional hardcovers but are still quick to sew, and open flat. The class models include a paper case book and a cloth case book. Options include pleated endpapers, sewing through the spine cover and cutting strategic windows to see the stitches. Bring a $20 material fee with you to class.
